The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Zamfara State has inaugurated new officials to run the affairs of the chapel in acting capacity to complete the tenure of the leadership led by the impeached Chairman, Umar Muhammad Maradun, in the state.
Reasons behind the impeachment of Umar Maradun were financial misappropriation and violation of the constitution of the union, which included failure to organise congresses and reckless management of the chapel’s funds.
The chapel’s congress had after deliberations, appointed Salisu Zakari Maradun, to serve as chairman in acting capacity, while the impeached Vice-Chairman, Sanusi Muhammad, was replaced by Sani Haruna Dutsinma, to serve as acting vice-chairman.
Other officials appointed were Babangida Ibrahim, to serve as acting treasurer, Bala Abubakar, as assistant secretary, while Ibrahim Sidi Muhammad, was to serve as acting auditor.
Clearing the air on a controversial resignation letter which was posted on WhatsApp platforms by the impeached chairman two weeks after his impeachment by the chapel’s congress, Zamfara State Chairman of the NUJ, Abdurrazak Bello Kaura, said until formal inauguration of the new exco, his council was not served with any resignation letter from any member.
Also speaking, the chairman of the committee set up by the state council to investigate and find solution to the problems surrounding the move to impeach the embattled chairman, Mustapha Ramalan, said the impeached chairman was not exonerated by the committee from the allegations levied against him.
