The Commander of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (CPG), Major General Lawal B. Muhammad (rtd), has been shot by bandits who launched attack on commuters along the Funtua-Gusau road over the weekend.
According to the source close to the CPG Commander, who allegedly sustained gunshot wounds on both laps, was returning from Kaduna State to Gusau, the Zamfara State capital when his entourage ran into the bandit’s barricade on the highway and in the struggle to escape the trap, the bandits opened fire and hit the Commander on his two laps.
An eyewitness said the Commander on arrival at the scene, communicated with the troops whose duty was to patrol the highway with a view to ensure safety of lives against bandits who abduct commuters on daily basis, ”Before the arrival of the troops, bandits had opened fire on the Commander’s vehicle after noticing that he communicated for quick response to repel them.
“It was in the course of the bandits’ efforts to expedite their nasty operations that they opened fire on the Commander’s vehicle during which they shot him and abducted some commuters.
“The troops quickly arrived the scene with firepower which compelled the bandits to immediately retreat into the bush with the abducted victims, leaving behind the CPC Commander in his blood,” an eyewitness stressed.
