The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Yobe State Command said it has apprehended 222 trailers transporting 3,169 passengers in order to avoid massive highway collisions and fatalities.
The Sector Commander, Dawi Dantaro, made the announcement while briefing reporters in Damaturu, Yobe State on the Corps’ readiness to ensure an accident-free Eid el-Kabir celebration across the state.
He stated that the inappropriate behaviour of motorists prompted the formation of the Inter-Agency Joint Task Force (IJTF) to ensure compliance with the usage of trailers to transport passengers and reduce road traffic crashes.
Dantaro added that the IJTF, which began operations on March 23, has successfully apprehended a total of 222 trailers loaded with 3,169 persons hanging on top of products and animals.

“The IJTF dropped over 2,440 passengers who were mandated to take alternative vehicles designed for conveying passengers.
“Since the commencement of the IJTF on March 23, 2024, the menace of road traffic crashes involving trailers and the fatalities that come with them have been adequately tamed and the situation arrested on all fronts,” he said.
Dantaro encouraged stakeholders and drivers in the state to provide them with the assistance they need to decrease the high number of road accidents to a bare minimum.
In order to achieve and ensure a hassle-free 2024 Eid-el-Kabir Sallah celebration, he stated that the corps has deployed 743 patrol cars, 184 administrative vehicles, 92 ambulances, 23 tow trucks, and 144 motorcycles across the country.
