Says Eagles focused on victory over Libya
Super Eagles head coach, Austin Eguavoen, has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to perform in the absence of star striker Victor Osimhen as Nigeria prepares for their crucial AFCON qualifier against Libya on Friday.
Osimhen has been ruled out of the Nigerian two-legged AFCON qualifiers after suffering an injury in Galatasaray’s last home game but the interim Eagles coach said his team can cope without his talismanic striker.
Leverkusen star, Victor Boniface is expected to lead the line to be assisted by Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman and others. “It’s a collective effort, it’s a team sport, not an individual sport,” Eguavoen stated.
“We are in touch, he’s a huge miss, we all know how important and impactful Osimhen can be, but we have other players who can step into his shoes.
“He’s not here physically but I am one hundred percent sure he’s here spiritually with us,” the coach added. Eguavoen said they have stayed focused on the task at hand as they look to bolster their qualification chances with a good outing against the Libyans on Friday.
He said: “They have one point and are bottom of the group. We are aware of our position, and they are aware of theirs,” Eguavoen said in a press briefing with the Super Eagles media team. “They will come here and fight.
We are not thinking about the away game; our focus is the game in front of us on Friday. “We will fight for the three points. We know what it means to get the job done quickly. It is going to be tough, but the boys are in good spirits. We have no injuries, and everyone is ready.
