As threats and fears over the anti-government protest gather momentum, the Federal Capital Territory ( FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike on Wednesday said the heavy presence of security operatives around the nation’s capital, especially the critical public infrastructures, was to ensure absolute protection.
Wike who spoke at Abaji Area Council, when he inspected some ongoing road projects, said his administration was not taking anything for granted.
New Telegraph observed that apart from the show of force patrol by the combined team of different security agencies within Abuja, places like Eagle Square and other places have been heavily militarised.
The Minister reiterated his refusal to allow any group to use the Eagle Square, insisting that he would not allow people in the name of protesters to vandalise public assets.
Wike said, “We don’t want to take anything for granted, we want to make sure that security is tight, intact. And I never approved the use of Eagles Square to anybody, maybe that must have informed why the security is making sure that all the public areas are well protected.
“ We will not allow hoodlums to take advantage and begin to vandalise our infrastructure, so that may be the reason”
Regarding the ongoing mass infrastructures in the rural areas, the minister said that President Bola Tinubu will not relent in providing everything that will improve the lives of Nigerians.
“ The project connects various communities, improving their livelihoods and transportation. The administration is committed to providing infrastructure in rural areas and discouraging urban migration.
“This is all about the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President to make sure that every area is impacted positively,” Wike said. “I can’t tell you how happy I am, to see the connections between the various communities which will of course improve their means of livelihoods and transportation.”
