Former National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, has warned that if what he described as the excesses of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, were not checked, they are capable of truncating the nation’s democracy.
Prince Secondus in a statement issued on Wednesday by his media aide, Ike Abonyi, called on the Federal Government to call Wike to order.
He alleged that the former Rivers State governor is capitalising on the protection given to him by the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government, to cause the breakdown of law and order in Rivers State.
“It is only in this country and under the watch of a party like APC that one person will be a member of two political parties and use them to cause nuisance in the society,” the former PDP Chairman observed.
He reminded the Federal Government of the strategic importance of Rivers State to Nigeria’s economy and advised President Bola Tinubu to work with Governor Similaya Fubara to protect the national assets in the state.
Secondus congratulated the people of Rivers state, particularly the voters, for turning out en mass during last Saturday’s local government election.
He also commended Governor Fubara for standing for democracy and providing leadership to his people when it was very necessary, by refusing to be intimidated.
Secondus warned that all indices of a failed democracy already exist in Nigeria, adding that the Federal government should be careful about how it handles anti-democratic forces working to truncate democracy in the country.
