The Federal Capital Territory ( FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike has given approval for the forthcoming 40 African countries military games to be hosted in Abuja.
Wike who received the Nigeria’s Military Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa and some top military officers, in Abuja on Wednesday, said his administration would provide every necessary assistance to the military to ensure the success of the games.
The Minister disclosed that the Military has been a committed partner to the ongoing war against insecurity in FCT and across the country, and therefore, worthy of encouragement from the government.
To ensure a successful hosting of the games, the Minister has directed that his Chief of Staff, Senior Special Assistant on Administration and FCTA’s Director of Security be drafted into the military committee that is already running.
Wike said, “ we have no choice but to give you all necessary support. Whatever you think we can do, do not hesitate to tell us. We shall give three persons to work with you in the committee”.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chief of Defence Staff, said the games which over 40 African countries Military formations have indicated interest in, and proposed to be hosted in the nation’s capital, were coming to prove to the world that Nigeria is safe.
Musa noted that the games would be used to strengthen the relationship between Nigeria’s Military and its counterparts across Africa and also showcase the good work that President Bola Tinubu is doing in the country.
According to him, the perception in some quarters that Abuja is not safe, was not just erroneous but also mischievous.
He added that Abuja as the nation’s capital could be adjudged as one of the safest capital cities in the world.
