Wike: FCTA Mulls 10,000 Affordable Housing Units For The Poor

The Federal Capital Territory ( FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike on Thursday said his administration would commence the construction of 10,000 affordable housing units for the masses.

The Minister who disclosed this at the Ministerial Sectoral Update in Abuja, noted that President Bola Tinubu has ordered that the project, tagged “ Renewed Hope City Estate” will begin next year.

He said, “In our next budget we want to build the Renewed Hope City, to the tune of 10,000 houses. We are going to provide infrastructure”.

He equally explained that he has never been against any ethnic groups getting land allocations in Abuja, but has vowed to end racketeering which many housing developers engage in.

According to him, many of the private housing developers have become fraudulent, as they come with the pretence of building affordable housing for the poor, but will end up selling the land at exorbitant prices.

He further disclosed that he has also determined to tackle land speculation which has become the major challenge in Abuja.

“Someone said he wants to build 20,000 houses, and you give him the land, but he will start selling and allocating to people.

“One of the most difficult of all the challenges is land. There is corruption in land administration. I have been battling them, and I will defeat them”, he added.
