Talented actor, Lateef Adedimeji, has revealed that the idea of his soon to be released epic film ‘ Lisabi: The Uprising’ which will premiere on Netflix on September 27, 2024, with its sequel, Lisabi: A Legend is Born, coming on the scene in January 2025 was a thoughtful idea having played several prominent roles that include Ayinla, Ige, and in recent time, playing the role of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu; I decided to pick on a another great hero to celebrate his works and achievement.
He said: ‘I was going to do another film but I just thought to go back home. I have done Ayinla which is from Egba, so I went back to the root to that person that saved Egba long time ago and let a lot of people come to the realization that this is who Lisabi is because I know that every omo Egba will be referred to as Egba Omo Lisabi but who is he? Is he human, a god, a diety? I didn’t even know myself until I started my research of who he was. I decided this is the story to tell, let me tell the story.
On the choice of director, Lateef noted that he knew the only person who could align with this thought is director extraordinaire, Niyi Akinmolayan, as he is a grounded filmmaker with so much experience.
“He is my choice to be director because it’s a story that is so dear to me and I put my all into it. I can’t wait for everyone to see the magic that we have made and I can’t for the world to embrace it. It’s our story, it’s original and we need to start telling stories of our history. That is what Al-Notion studios is about. It’s our mission to tell stories of great people that a lot of this generation do not know about. We are losing out on our culture and tradition and we need to bring it back, we need to know our story.”
Executively produced by Lateef Adedimeji and directed by Niyi Akinmolayan, Lisabi features a star-studded cast which includes Femi Adebayo, Odunlade Adekola, Ibrahim Itele Yekini, Ibrahim Chattah, Mo Bimpe, Eniola Ajao, Liquorose Afije and Lateef Adedimeji himself, all of whom have dedicated years to their craft.
