Why I Didn’t Sign Wizkid, Davido – Don Jazzy

The CEO of Mavin Records, Don Jazzy has opened up on why he did not sign the Afrobeats superstars, Wizkid and Davido to his now-defunct record label, Mo’hits.

Speaking in a live leaderboard podcast which was hosted by Fisayo Fosudo, Don Jazzy revealed the reasons he didn’t sign the award-winning superstars when asked about his defunct record label.

The Mavin Record boss explained that he couldn’t sign Wizkid because Banky W, the CEO of EME Records, had already taken the opportunity to sign the Starboy.

Speaking further, the ever-talented music executive also spoke regarding Davido that he had the chance to sign him but chose not to because he believed Davido would thrive without the support of a record label.

He, however, expressed regret for not signing artists like Simi and Teni.

He mentioned that he came close to signing rapper Falz The Bahd Guy, but unfortunately, the deal fell through.

He said, “I like Simi, I didn’t sign her. I wish I did. I like Teni, but I didn’t sign her. I wish I did. I had the opportunity of signing Davido but I didn’t because I kind of figured that he would be fine.

“Wizkid, obviously, I couldn’t because Banky W got to him first. That would have been amazing. Falz, I love his work. We almost had a deal.”
