Nigerian Afrobeats music star, Ahmed Ololade popularly known as Asake in the heat of his performance at the Afro Nation music festival in Portugal jumped into the crowd and fell when no one caught him. The singer, who is known for his energetic live shows, leapt into the air with the intention of being caught by his fans.
However, the crowd was not prepared for his sudden move and he ended up landing on the ground. Asake was uninjured in the fall, but the incident sparked a debate on social media about the safety of crowd surfing.
Some fans criticised Asake for putting himself at risk, while others defended him, saying that he was simply trying to connect with his audience. The incident also drew attention to the issue of crowd safety at music festivals.
In the wake of Asake’s fall, festival organisers have urged fans to be aware of their surroundings and to help each other stay safe. They have also reminded fans that crowd surfing is not allowed at all Afro Nation events. Asake has not yet commented on the incident.
However, he is expected to continue his tour as scheduled. He is due to perform in London on July 15th. Some of his fans who has been sympathetic with the singer prayed that he doesn’t have serious injuries and warned children not to practice same at home. More so, another fan Stated, “do not get over excited on stage. Do not jump when you are not sure”.
