Bauchi, the capital city of Bauchi State and its environs, are experiencing acute water shortage as the temperature in the state capital has moved from 31 to over 40 degree celsius with many people expressing concern and fear over the likely outbreak of meningitis in some areas of the state capital.
A visit by New Telegraph to some areas within the metropolis revealed that some families have resorted to sinking boreholes in their family houses to provide water for themselves as the water taps have gone dry for the past fifteen days.
The water scarcity, however, is making water vendors’ richer as water tankers owners and pure water sellers sachet water have also been making good business from dusk to dawn. It was learnt that a sachet of water which hitherto sells for N10 now goes for between N15 to N20 and a bag of pure water which was sold at N170 is now N250 to N300.
