Violence, terrorism not peculiar to Nigeria –Presidency

The Presidency has said violence and terrorism were not peculiar to Nigeria but have risen steadily in the African continent in the last decade. In a statement issued by a Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, yesterday, the President blamed the outbreak of coronavirus with its attendant negative economic consequences as being responsible for the upsurge of criminalities in the country.

 

While responding to issues raised in the editorial of Daily Trust Newspapers yesterday, the Presidency said the growing instability and violence in the North of Nigeria and elsewhere was unacceptable. He said: “No one, not least the Presidency underestimates the seriousness of the situation. Everyday, the President holds the victims and their families in his thoughts and prayers.
