A vigilante mob shot and killed an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Taraba State.
New Telegraph gathered that the police officer, whose force number is AP/NO191462, was slain in an ambush in Sandirde village of the Gassol local government council of the state.
In a statement released to journalists on Wednesday morning in Jalingo, the state capital, Police Commissioner David Iloyanomon said the ambush was led by the vigilante group’s commander, Ali Dissol.
According to him, “On 4/5/2024, a team of special strike force operatives attached to Government House Taraba State led by SP Jamu Emmanuel, while on routine patrol at Sandirde village in Gassol local government council were ambushed by a group of local vigilante.”

He claimed that the vigilante group shot the officer on his lap, resulting in his death in a hospital in the village.
“The unprovoked criminal act of the gruesome murder of the officer was despicable and unwarranted, hence the command has deployed intelligence and operational resources to sustain manhunt of the fleeing attackers and bring the perpetrators of this senseless act to book,” he vowed.
He expressed the Command’s sympathies to the dead officer’s family and friends and reassured the people that, no stone will be left unturned in battling criminality across the state.
