Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has said the Umuahia mega transport terminal would replicate Oshodi in Lagos State as a one-stop transport facility for railway, buses, shopping and hospitality when completed.
Explaining some of the features of the Transport Terminal during an inspection tour of the facility and what it intends to achieve, governor Otti said he was bringing the concept of Oshodi, environment to in Umuahia, the Abia State Capital.
“Exactly what they did in Oshodi is what we want to replicate here. The Railway, the Buses, everything will terminate here. Shopping centers, hotels; just where people can come, meet, and have fun. Children’s playground, everything will be here,” he said.
He explained that the project would help organize the Capital City very well and bring to an end the chaos and disorder created by multiplicity of parks in the city center.
“The governor also said that the facility would be a center for businesses as there would be provision for hotels, shopping plazas, and playground, among others.
On the revenue potential of the project, Otti observed that it may not yield much money immediately but definitely a revenue spinner in the long run, as well as give Umuahia the outlook of a capital city.
The governor expressed satisfaction at the pace and level of work done at the site, but however, drew the attention of the contractor to some aspects that needed minor adjustments like widening of the roads, among others.
“I think the contractors are doing very well. they have been known to perform very well. They are working according to schedule.
“But then, there are a few areas that I observed that they have to go back and make some adjustments.
“We needed the roads to be wider than they are with the junction improvement and the traffic lights.
“So, I have asked them to stop around the Cooperative roundabout so that we can take a look at it again”.
“But, so far, so good. I am impressed with the quality of work”, Governor Otti stated.
