In the second leg of their UEFA Champions League (UCL) quarterfinal match on Wednesday, Real Madrid goalkeeper, Andriy Lunin responded to midfielder Bernardo Silva of Manchester City’s spot-kick.
New Telegraph reports that after the game at Etihad Stadium concluded in a 1-1 draw, Lunin was Real Madrid’s hero in the penalty shootout, helping them defeat Manchester City 4-3.
Madrid advanced to the semi-finals, where they will play Bayern Munich, thanks to two saves from the Ukraine international in the shootout.
Lunin stated that a decision made prior to the shootout with Real Madrid’s coach allowed him to make what ended up being an easy save. Silva’spenalty was shot meekly straight down the middle of the goal during the shootout.

Lunin told Movistar Plus+, “I needed to take a risk with one of the kicks, we picked one (to stay in the middle) and thank goodness it worked out in our favour.
“It’s an away Champions League game and we went through a lot of suffering… but I’m very grateful to the team for everything they’ve fought for. I can’t imagine myself running like my teammates did today.”
