Troops Arrest 5 Suspected Gunrunners, Recover Arms And Ammunition In Plateau

Troops of Operation Safe Haven in a daring intelligence driven operation have arrested five notorious gunrunners and recover arms and ammunition in Plateau State.

Media Information Officer, Operation Safe Haven, Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, while addressing journalists in Jos yesterday said the operation took place from midnight of September 16 to the early hours of September 17, 2024 and was carried out by Operation Safe Haven Delta Force and Sector 1 troops.

He disclosed that the troops raided the hideout of a suspected gunrunner, Mohammed Sani, at Naraguta Mining Area in Bayameni, Jos North LGA, Plateau State.

“During the operation, the suspected gunrunner and four others were apprehended and the following items were recovered; to include firearms, two AK-47 rifles, one Fabrique National automatic rifle, fourteen Ak- 47 Magazine and one Fabrique Nationale Magazine.

While Ammunitions include 5,316 rounds of 7.62 MM (Special), 98 rounds of 7.62 MM (NATO) and 43 rounds of 9 MM. Major Zhakom added that the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation to gather useful intelligence on the gunrunning syndicate and disrupt their supply chain.

The Operation Safe Haven commended the people of Plateau State for providing credible information that led to the successful operation. He urged the public to continue cooperating with security agencies to ensure a crime-free environment.
