Stray bullets fired by the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) reportedly killed a two-year-old toddler and wounded his brother at Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area, Delta State.
The traffic incident happened on Friday when the personnel of the agency raided a notorious drug hideout in the area.
Multiple sources said the deceased child, Ivan Omhonria and his younger sibling, Eromonsele, had just returned from school to their mother’s shop when they were hit by stray bullets.
The kids were transported to the Federal Medical Center (FMC), in Asaba, for treatment but Ivan did not make it.

NDLEA State Commandant, Mr John Tunde, confirmed the incident.
He stated that none of his cops had shot at the kids on purpose. In his words, “We can’t be that unprofessional to open fire on a shop,”
Tunde added that one of the officers was run over when his guys were attempting to halt a suspicious car that was attempting to flee the scene.
“In attempts to demobilize the car, our men shot at it. What we cannot tell now is whether the children were inside the car at the time of the shooting,” he said.
Tunde expressed his condolences and mentioned that he had been to the hospital with the child’s father.
