The Commander and Chief Executive Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), ‘Seni Ogunyemi, has cautioned locals not to block roads for social gatherings.
Ogunyemi gave this stern warning while speaking on a radio programme in Abeokuta, the state capital on Thursday.
While acknowledging that it is illegal, he added that the government only issues permits for social activities, not to block highways for other people to use.

“It is illegal to block roads for social parties under sections six and seven of the law, which established TRACE. The problem is lawlessness on the part of the people.
“They always say that they got permits from local governments, but they do not know that it is only to organize social parties and not to block public roads. TRACE must be involved too, in order to have a free flow of traffic at such social gatherings,” he said.
He, however, emphasized the importance of continual public awareness in curbing such criminal activity, stating that TRACE officials use corrective measures to sensitize and counsel offenders rather than enforce them.
