First Lady Oluremi Tinubu yesterday donated N500 million to the victims of last week’s Maiduguri flood to alleviate their suffering.
The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Chairman announced the donation during a sympathy visit to Governor Babagana Zulum in Maiduguri. Mrs Tinubu, represented by Nana, the wife of Vice President Kashim Shettima, praised the state government for its commitment and pledged the RHI’s continued support to youth and women in the state.
Mrs Shettima said: “I am here today wearing two hats, one to represent the First Lady and the RHI chairperson Mrs Oluremi Tinubu. “She kindly asked me to extend her sympathies and prayers to you and the good people of Borno State.”
She presented a dummy cheque of N500 million to the flood victims on the First Lady’s behalf to the state government. Zulum said the concern of the Federal Government for the development of Borno cannot be overemphasized.
He commended Mrs Tinubu, Mrs Shettima and others for their concern over the plight of the flood victims. Also, Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda donated N100 million to the victims.
While commiserating with Zulum, he said: “We are here to sympathize with you and the people of the state over the recent flooding that ravaged the state capital where many lives were lost and property worth millions of naira destroyed.
“As Muslims, we believe it is from God and we pray that such an incident never happens again in any part of the country. We also pray that God grant eternal life to those who lost their lives and re – plenish to those who lost their property.”
