‘Desperate Lobbyists In Paris To Woo President’s Aides’
Sources within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have confirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to receive nominations of would be members of the envisaged Federal Cabinet from the governors and other stakeholders of the party upon his return from France.
President Tinubu is currently in Paris, capital of France, to participate alongside other world leaders at the Summit for New Global Financial Pact hosted by his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, which ended yesterday.
“We have feelers that the president will receive nominations from the governors elected on the platform of the APC when he returns from his Paris,” a source who works at the national secretariat of the APC told our correspondent.
Saturday Telegraph had reported exclusively last week that President Tinubu had during his meeting with the governors mandated them to forward three names of members in their respective states for possible appointment into the cabinet.
Apart from the governors, the source who begged not to be named added that “I am aware that the President will consult with leaders and other stakeholders of the party in states where the party is in the opposition to draw up lists of candidates for appointment.”
Another source added that many members of the APC in the various states of the country are currently wooing aides of President Tinubu and other leaders who are considered close to him to help push their respective bids. According to the source, “These lobbyists are not relenting and are not taking things lightly.
As I speak with you, many of them have recently left the country for France to explore the possibility of getting a buy- in of the aides and friends of the president whom they know to push their case with President Tinubu.”
On why these lobbyists are sidetracking their various governors and leaders, the source stated that the development might not be unconnected to the realisation that they might not make the lists being compiled by the governors and the party leaders.
