President Bola Tinubu has formally submitted the names of members for the inaugural Governing Board of the North West Development Commission (NWDC) to the Senate for confirmation.
This was contained in a press statement issued on Saturday by President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to Onanuga, the submission followed President Tinubu’s signing of the North West Development Commission (NEDC) Bill into law on July 24, marking a significant step toward the establishment of the NWDC.
If confirmed by the Senate, the Commission is tasked with driving growth, economic empowerment, and social development in the North West region of Nigeria.

The statement partly reads, “The nominated board members are expected to contribute their wealth of experience and expertise to the Commission’s mandate of developing the North-West region,” the statement said, emphasizing the importance of the NWDC in fostering sustainable development across the region.
President Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the NWDC in fulfilling its mission, with the Commission expected to play a pivotal role in addressing developmental challenges and unlocking the region’s economic potential.

– Chairman: Ambassador Haruna Ginsau (Jigawa)
– MD/CEO: Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji (Kano)
Members:
– Dr. Yahaya Umar Namahe (Sokoto)
– Hon. Aminu Suleiman (Kebbi)
– Sen. Tijani Yahaya Kaura (Zamfara)
– Hon. Abdulkadir S. Usman (Kaduna)
– Hon. Engr. Muhammad Ali Wudil (Kano)
– Shamsu Sule (Katsina)
– Nasidi Ali (Jigawa)
The nominees are set to bring diverse expertise to the Commission, helping to realize its goal of accelerating the development of the North West region. The Senate’s confirmation of the nominees will mark the final step in fully operationalizing the NWDC.
