President Bola Tinubu has expressed condolences to the family of Ben Oluwole-Johnson, following the passing of the US-based business executive and philanthropist.
Oluwole-Johnson, who was also a former governorship aspirant of Ondo State, passed away in September at the age of 72 in Crete, Illinois.
His burial rites will commence on Friday, with the final burial set for October 5.
In a personal tribute, Tinubu described Oluwole-Johnson as a man of remarkable intelligence and vision, appraising his passion and dedication to the development of Nigeria.
Tinubu recalled their shared interactions in Chicago, where Oluwole-Johnson, known for his business acumen, consistently showcased his brilliance.
Tinubu highlighted Oluwole-Johnson’s extraordinary philanthropy, noting his significant contribution to Nigeria’s healthcare sector.

He was instrumental in securing and donating over $42 million worth of hospital equipment, with a primary focus on Lagos State.
Despite the time and effort required, Oluwole-Johnson never sought compensation for his efforts.
The President also reflected on his late friend’s attempt to run for governor in Ondo State, which was strongly supported by the Nigerian community in Chicago.
Although Oluwole-Johnson did not win, his audacity and courage earned the admiration of many, including Tinubu, who affectionately referred to Oluwole-Johnson’s wife, Moji, as “First Lady.”
Tinubu praised Oluwole-Johnson’s unwavering commitment to Nigeria, even as his health declined.
His contributions to ‘The Caring Group,’ which focused on supporting Nigeria and Lagos State, were invaluable, with his wife Moji often stepping in to represent him in his later years.
“We will sorely miss Mr. Ben, but we take solace in the great family he leaves behind. May he rest in perfect peace,” Tinubu concluded in his tribute.
