
Gunmen suspected to be sea pirates have abducted at least 10 travellers along the Bonny-Port Harcourt waterway in Rivers State.
The incident which occured in the early hours of Monday has sent shockwaves through the region, raising concerns over the safety of waterways.

Israel Pepple, Chairman of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, Rivers State District, confirmed the abduction, stating, “It is not a rumour, it is real.
“Ten persons have been kidnapped this morning coming from Bonny to Port Harcourt. We’ve reported to the security agencies.”
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, noted that he had not yet been briefed on the situation but assured that further details would be provided as investigations continue.
