Summit University, Offa in Kwara State has disassociated itself from the alleged involvement of any of its former students in criminal activities, saying the suspect that was linked to the death of a 21-year-old female student is not their student.
The University, in a statement made available to Journalists in Ilorin, the State capital, on Friday by its spokesman, Atoyebi Bashir Olagunju, clarified that the individual had been expelled long before the alleged crime took place and has no current affiliation with the institution.
Olagunju said the clarification became expedient because the arrested suspect was referred to as a former student of Summit University in a recent release by the Kwara State Police Command.
The statement said: “The Summit University wishes to clarify that the individual had been expelled long before the alleged crime took place and has no current affiliation with the institution.
“In fact, he was dismissed after being found guilty of theft, a serious violation of both the University’s rules and Matriculation Oath.
“The dismissal was followed by the immediate removal of the student’s belongings from the University hostel by his parents, marking the end of his association with Summit University.
“The management of Summit University emphasised that it was not aware of any criminal activities connected to the individual prior to his expulsion.
“The University also strongly denied any involvement in or endorsement of any event, including night parties, that could be linked to the criminal case under investigation.
“Since its establishment, Summit University has prided itself on upholding high standards of moral discipline, academic excellence, and the cultivation of entrepreneurial skills.
“The University reaffirmed its commitment to these values and assured the public that it remains a bastion of integrity and sound education.”
Summit University has, however, lauded the Kwara State Police Command for its swift and professional action in apprehending the suspects involved in the heinous crime, pledging its full support for a thorough and impartial investigation.
The institution, according to the statement, has extended its deepest sympathy to the family of the deceased, offering prayers for strength and comfort during this tragic time.
