Subsidy: Group Seeks Quick Implementations Of Measures To Ease Effect

The Association of Nigerian Professionals in the United Kingdom has called for the quick implementation of the policies being put in place by the Federal Government to ease the effects of the removal of fuel subsidy in the country.

This was contained in a statement issued by its Coordinator, Innocent Udoidiong, and made available to newsmen in Uyo on Sunday.

The group, however, praised President Bola Tinubu for the courage to get rid of the ‘obnoxious’ fuel subsidy policy, stating that the subsidy was a “channel for the perpetration of fraud by some criminal elements.”

In a statement titled “Nigerians in UK felicitate President Tinubu on the assumption of Office,” the group while expressing commitment to support the Tinubu-led federal government, called on the government to continue to evolve people-oriented policies and programmes geared towards improving the lives of vulnerable Nigerians.

The statement reads, “Watching closely you will realize that, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has started on a good note, indicating that he did not just dabble into it. He thoroughly prepared himself for the mantle.

“All we need at this moment is prayer and support to enable him to succeed.”

“We appreciate the courage of Mr President to get rid of the obnoxious policy which has remained a channel for the perpetration of fraud by some criminal elements.

“If the subsidy is removed to curb corruption, its removal should not rather lead to suffering by Nigerians. Something must be done and that should be as a matter of urgency”.

Udoidiong who described President Tinubu and his Vice, Kashim Shettima as strategic leaders with vast experience, further congratulated the duo on their election victory and inauguration.

He particularly commended the President for standing by the zoning arrangement of the All Progressives Congress by supporting Senator Godswill Akpabio and Tajudeen Abbas to emerge as Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively.

He further urged Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to cooperate and support the President Tinubu-led government while maintaining peace and tranquillity in their domains.
