The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) have issued a 15-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to address their longstanding demands or face another strike action.
In a joint statement signed by the union’s National Chairman and Secretary, JOHESU expressed frustration over the government’s failure to meet their demands since June 2021, despite the suspension of their strike following President Bola Tinubu’s pledge to intervene.
According to public healthcare professionals, failure to resolve these issues would result in the resumption of industrial action, potentially disrupting healthcare services nationwide.

JOHESU’s key demands include the non-payment of the COVID-19 hazard allowance to healthcare workers, tax exemption on healthcare workers’ allowances, and the immediate halt to plans for establishing an agency to oversee national health facilities.
It would be recalled that JOHESU previously staged a protest from May 19 to June 6, 2023, which severely impacted public hospitals across the country.
The strike was suspended after President Tinubu assured the union of his commitment to resolving the issues.
However, JOHESU has warned that unless significant progress is made within the next 15 days, another round of industrial action is imminent.
The union has urged the government to act swiftly to prevent further disruptions in the nation’s healthcare sector.
