Southern Borno Leaders Donate N200m To Maiduguri Flood Victims

Southern Borno leaders yesterday donated over N200 million to Maiduguri flood victims. Last week’s severe flooding in the Borno State capital was caused by the collapse of a dam following heavy rainfall. severe flooding claimed lives and property.

Deputy Governor Umar Kadafur and the representative of Borno South in the Senate Ali Ndume, who yesterday led a delegation of monarchs, ex-deputy governors and others from nine local government areas in the senatorial district, on a sympathy visit to Governor Babagana Zulum and the Shehu of Borno, Dr. Abubakar Garbai Al-Amin Elkanemi, lamented the disaster.

Ndume said following the governor’s request for assistance, Kadafur, who is the leader of Southern Borno, summoned a stakeholders’ meeting, where it was unanimously agreed that willing people from the area from should make financial contributions. The legislator said as of yesterday morning over N200 million had been contributed by donors.

He said they were at Government House to sympathise with the governor and also to present a cheque of N200 million to the state government to assist in managing the plight of the displaced victims Presenting a dummy cheque to Zulum, Kadafur thanked those who have contributed. The deputy governor said: “We are also here to present a dummy cheque of N200 million to the State Government Flood Basket Fund.”
