SOSG Distributes 20 Motorised Boats To Tackle Mishaps

The Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Engineer Idris Muhammad Gobir, on Saturday inspected 20 motorised boats procured by the state government for distribution to 10 flood-prone Local Governments in the state.

This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing citizen welfare and safety. The motorised boats, accompanied by life jackets, aim to mitigate risks associated with boat capsizing incidents and flood-related disasters.

By providing safer transportation options, the state government hopes to reduce such tragedies and ensure resident safety in communities near rivers and waterways.

The inspection occurred at the Sokoto Furniture Factory premises, coordinated by the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) under Hon. Aminu Liman Bodinga’s leadership.

Deputy Governor Gobir was accompanied by key officials, including Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Muhammad Bello Sifawa; Chief of Staff, Government House, Sokoto, Alhaji Aminu Dikko; Majority Leader of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Bello Muhammad Idris; and other dignitaries.

During the inspection, the delegation received briefings on the boats’ features, capabilities, and safety measures. Beneficiaries will undergo training before receiving the boats.

The Deputy Governor expressed satisfaction with the boats’ quality and assured the public of imminent distribution. He encouraged responsible utilisation.

The 10 flood-prone local governments benefiting from the boats are Shagari, Goronyo, Wurno, Rabah, Wamakko, Silame, Kebbe, Tambuwal, Sabon-Birni, and Isa. Distribution will commence after operator training.

This initiative is part of the Sokoto State Government’s broader efforts to improve citizens’ lives and provide essential services, fostering a safer environment.
