Solemn Wake at Buma-Onunkwo’s Service of Songs

A solemn Service of Songs was held at the Archbishop Abiodun Adetiloye Memorial Anglican Church, Ajao Estate on Friday. The event, which featured soul-lifting hymnals and inspiring testimonies turned into a celebration of the life, time and legacies of the late Chief Obuneme Aaron Buma-Onunkwo.

It was an atmosphere of Thanksgiving for a life well-spent, mixed with soulful emotions and heart-touching testimonies from speakers among friends, families and other associates, who took turns at the microphone to extol the deceased husband of New Telegraph Editor, Juliet Buma.

Heartfelt prayers by the congregation followed the inspiring testimonies from a cross-section of the packed auditorium; for the deceased’s immediate and extended families, business associates and the church.

Flanked by her two children on both sides, Mrs Buma was visibly moved by the outpouring of love and support she received from well-wishers, including members of staff of New Telegraph Newspaper led by Managing Director, Ayodele Aminu and other veterans from the media industry.

Others were: the Chairman, of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), Eze Anaba, co-founder and TheNiche, and Ikechukwu Amaechi, among other notable pen pushers.

Leading the service, Venerable Hezekiah Olu-Oshundeyi, implored all present to always remember God in all they do. He noted that the outpouring of edifying testimonies about the late Chief Buma-Onunkwo is a right lesson in living for God and humanity.

In a sermon, titled, “Death is Inevitable”, Reverend William Swanzy, who quoted Bible text Hebrews Chapter 9 verse 27, reminded that death, for a child of God who has lived a good life, ought to be a thing of joy.

Noting that death, being the end of every mortal is ordained by God, Swanzy cited Abraham, who despite his long life, good report, closeness to God and riches while alive also died. He urged Juliet, her two kids and all those who were bereaved to take solace in God’s promise of resurrection and the good life led by their beloved.

He prayed that the Lord uphold them, grant Juliet the required strength and the Buma kids the grace of greatness.
