Sokoto To Establish Military Camp To Check Banditry

The Sokoto State Government has said that a military camp is to be established in one of the three towns experiencing frequent banditry in the state. The state’s Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir, announced this while addressing Sabon Fegi community in Sabon Birni, according to a statement in Sokoto yesterday. The proposed camp is to be established in one of the three communities of Burkusuma, Dama and Magira in Sabon Birnin Local Government Area of the state.

The statement said that consultation to this effect has reached an advanced stage. According to Gobir, this would check the frequent attacks being carried out by bandits in the area. He implored people of Sokoto East Senatorial District to shun fabrication of stories and rumours that may compound the insecurity in the area, an action he described as unpatriotic.

He also called on the people to remain patriotic and united, as well as being security conscious in the fight against banditry. The deputy governor also reiterated the commitment of the Ahmad Aliyu administration in the fight against banditry and other criminal activities.
