Sokoto, AGILE Collaborate To Empower Girls, Women

Fatima, the wife of the Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu, has pledged to support girls’ education. This was as the state government and the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) are collaborating to empower girls and women.

Following the collaboration, the governor’s wife received more than 200 students who marched from the Women’s Centre for Continuous Education to the Government House in Sokoto.

This promise was made during the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child commemoration at Government House. Mrs. Aliyu, represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs Hadiza Ahmad Shagari, stressed the Aliyu administration’s commitment to education and women’s empowerment through partnerships with UNICEF and other development organisations.

The State AGILE Coordinator, Dr. Mansur Isah Buhari, and Executive Secretary Sokoto State Female Education Board, Prof. Mustapha Namakka Tukur, said celebrating the girl child reinforces Sokoto’s dedication to creating a productive society by enhancing education, health, and economic opportunities for girls and women.
