Bayo Akomolafe Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), in collaboration with the National Judicial Institute (NJI), is set to host the 17th edition of the international maritime seminar for judges in West Africa. Expected at the event are the Chief Justices of The Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia and Sierra Leone, along with some justices/ judges of their respective judiciaries. Other participants that would grace the occasion include justices of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and judges of the federal and state high courts, legal advisers, in-house counsel, legal and maritime practitioners as well as industry stakeholders.
The council’s Assistant Director, Public Relations Unit, Rebecca Adamu noted in a statement that the seminar will be held un- der the distinguished chairman- ship of Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation. She said that the forthcoming event will take place at the Abuja Continental Hotel (former Abuja Sheraton Hotel), Ladi Kwali Centre between Tuesday 9 and Thursday July 11, 2024.
She explained: “With the knowledge on contemporary is- sues and developments in International Maritime Law and Admi- ralty Practice, as it impacts Nigeria and the West African Sub-region. An array of eminent jurists, er- udite scholars and seasoned Mar- itime/Legal practitioners from the judiciary and foreign experts will deliver papers aimed at address- ing several burning and complex issues bedeviling the maritime in- dustry such as: “Legal Issues in Nigerian Seaports Trade Facilitation.” The assistant director noted that the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule would be the special guest of honour at the event, saying that the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Honourable Justice Olukayode Ariwoola would be the chief host, while the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola will be the host at the occasion.
