SCRIH Partners UNIABUJA On Agriculture

The Supply Chain Research and Innovation Hub (SCRIH) has announced a strategic partnership with the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA), through its Faculty of Agriculture.

The announcement came after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the SCRIH Annex at the university.

According to the founder of the Innovation Hub, Adebayo Adeleke, the MoU is critical because Nigeria’s agriculture industry, the backbone of the country’s economy, is in danger due to several issues like ineffective supply chains, inadequate infrastructure, and restricted access to contemporary technology.

He added that the annex gives research students a dedicated area to study different aspects of food security and agricultural supply networks.

“One of the primary goals of the annex will be to enhance the flow of agricultural products from farms to consumers,” he said.

“The first-of-its-kind hub will also focus on improving logistics and transportation networks and ensure that farmers have access to markets and fair prices for their produce. It will provide insights that can inform policies and practices to strengthen the entire agricultural ecosystem.”

In line with its vision to encourage innovation, the Supply Chain Research and Innovation Hub also announced microgrants and scholarships to empower students and researchers to pursue innovative projects that address specific challenges within Nigeria’s agricultural supply chains.

It is clear, that the partnership between SCRIH and the University of Abuja is laying the groundwork for Nigeria’s economic survival.

Adeleke added, “By investing in research and innovation, Nigeria can unlock the full potential of its agricultural sector. Furthermore, a robust agricultural supply chain will improve food security, making the nation more resilient to external shocks, such as global market fluctuations and climate change.

“This partnership embodies the spirit of collaboration, innovation, and commitment to addressing the pressing challenges of agricultural supply chains and food security.”
