A South African Court on Monday declared that Jacob Zuma can’t run in the forthcoming general election scheduled to hold on May 29, 2023.
According to the Apex Court, the constitution prohibits candidates serving more than a year in prison from running for office.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Leone Theron declared that Zuma was ineligible for the legislative elections.

Theron said, “This court concludes that Mr Zuma was convicted of an offence and sentenced to more than 12 months imprisonment, and is accordingly not qualified to stand for election to the National Assembly.”
New Telegraph reports that Zuma was convicted for contempt of court during a case in 2021, he was sentenced to 15 months but eventually served less than three months.
