The Kano State government yesterday distanced itself from the hundreds of protesters carrying Russian flags around the state, insisting that they were not a known group to the government.
Spokesman of the governor, Mr Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said the protesters carrying Russian flags were not affiliated to the government or any of its agents.
He explained further that genuine protesters in the state have submitted their grievances, which would be forwarded to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja.
He said the state government has announced the establishment of a committee of inquiry to investigate the senseless killings and looting of public buildings that occurred during the protest.
The committee’s main objective is to determine the root cause of the violence that led to the killings and destruction, and identify those responsible for the crisis.
He said the protesters seen carrying Russian flags were not affiliated to the government, but that genuine protesters had submitted their grievances, which will be forwarded to President Bola Tinubu in Abuja for appropriate action.
He announced the arrest of 632 suspects for vandalis¹ing public buildings during the recent protest.
