Ace Nollywood actor, Richard Mofe-Damijo popularly referred to as RMD, has opened up on the essence of his cultural identity.
The 63-year-old film star revealed what defines him as an Urhobo man during the recent inauguration of the Council of Chiefs Minnesota (CCM) in the United States.
The CCM is an organisation of traditional title holders from Delta state in Minnesota. At the event, the actor stressed that his cultural identity is defined by his language, attire, and traditions and not by material possessions or physical attributes.
“For me as an Urhobo man, what defines me is not my bank account or how tall I am, it is the language I speak, it is the clothes I wear — the way I dress as an Urhobo man, it is the food I eat as an Urhobo man,” he said during a masterclass titled ‘A Conversation with RMD’.
The actor also received the Global Ambassador of the Performing Arts award. Born on July 6, 1961, RMD hails from the Alad- ja community in the Udu Kingdom, Delta state. He attended primary and secondary schools in Warri and studied Theater Arts at the University of Benin (UNIBEN).
He is considered one of the frontrunners in the Nigerian movie industry with a career spanning over three decades. RMD has also earned a plethora of nominations and awards for his craft.
