Security operatives in Rivers State on Friday thwarted an attempt by individuals disguised as Police Officers to hijack the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) office.
The incident, which occurred around 1 am, involved miscreants attempting to breach the gates and steal sensitive electoral materials intended for Saturday’s Local Government elections.
Following the incident, security officers who are at alert informed key officials, who promptly notified the Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

The governor, accompanied by lawmakers and political leaders, arrived at the scene to assess the situation.
Fubara condemned the attempted hijack and praised the security personnel for their vigilance.
Government officials and stakeholders are currently maintaining a close watch at the RSIEC office.
Attempts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, for comment have been unsuccessful.
