Rivers LG Polls: Atiku Commends Fubara For Upholding Democracy

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, 2023 Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday commended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara for proceeding with the Local Government elections slated for today.

Atiku made this remark while highlighting the governor’s courage in implementing the Supreme Court’s ruling on Local Government autonomy.

In a statement released issued on Friday night, the former Vice President described the move as a significant step for constitutional democracy.

Atiku called on the people of Rivers State to participate actively in the elections by casting their votes, emphasizing that the elections offer a unique opportunity to strengthen the nation’s democratic foundation.

“The local government elections in Rivers State on Saturday stand as a beacon of hope, offering renewed vigour to constitutional democracy at the very core of governance,” Atiku stated.

He added that the election is a chance to uphold the Supreme Court’s decision on local government autonomy, which he believes is essential to maintaining the principles of constitutionalism and the rule of law.

Atiku also lauded Fubara for his leadership and called on residents to fulfil their civic duty peacefully. He encouraged them to vote for leaders who will positively impact grassroots governance.

He further stressed the importance of democracy in shaping the future of communities across the state.

Atiku reaffirmed his belief in the sanctity of the democratic process, noting that empowering the people to choose their local leaders freely is crucial to building a strong and just society.
