The Rivers State Government has announced the donation of 46 motorcycles to tuberculosis (TB) supervisors and their deputies across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.
New Telegraph reports that the donation is in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health and it aims to enhance the tracking and treatment of tuberculosis by improving access to remote areas.
At the presentation ceremony in Port Harcourt, the State capital, Dr Adaeze Oreh, the state Commissioner for Health, emphasized that the motorcycles will aid in reaching underserved communities and facilitate early detection and treatment of tuberculosis.

She highlighted the state’s current position as third in the country for tuberculosis eradication efforts and expressed optimism that this new resource will help Rivers State achieve the top spot.
Dr Oreh also noted that the state’s treatment success rate stands at 96%, surpassing the World Health Organisation’s benchmark.
She expressed confidence that this initiative will help reach a 100% success rate.
The motorcycles, provided with support from the Global Fund and the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme, are expected to significantly enhance community surveillance and treatment outreach in challenging areas.
