Erstwhile National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, has said Governor Siminalayi Fubara remains the leader of Rivers State, insisting “there are no two captains in a ship”.
The fierce battle between Fubara and his immediate predecessor, Nyesom Wike, for control of Rivers’ political structure has triggered tension in the state. Secondus, who spoke to reporters at the weekend, decried the tensions in his state.
However, he expressed hope that the crisis would end soon. But he urged Fubara’s adversaries to embrace peace in the interest of the development of the state.
The PDP chief said: “There are no two captains in a ship. Governor (Sim) is the governor and the leader of our state. “Whatever that is happening in the PDP would be resolved very soon. “Governor Fubara is the leader of the state and is the governor of the state.”
Secondus added: “I feel very pained about the state because businesses and investors are running away. “So they should tone it down. That’s my general advice.
“We should tone it down so that the state can witness progress under the able leadership of Fubara.” Speaking on his removal as the main opposition party’s chairman, he called for improvement in the judicial system.
Secondus said: “It is one arm of government that you can’t do without. “You can also not do without a hospital. “So either you go to court, or some people take you to court. “Some you will get right, some you may not get right.
“My feeling is that there should be improvements and reforms. “We will get there one day when the situation will be perfect. It may not be in my favour, but all the same, it is what we all are looking for, an improvement and reform in the judiciary.”
