A member of the House of Representatives representing the Irele/Okitipupa Federal Constituency of Ondo State, Hon Okunjimi Odimayo distributed hundreds of fertilizers to farmers in his constituency.
This gesture, Odimayo, the Chairman of the House Committee on Population, said the gesture was to support and encourage farmers in the state, particularly those in Irele and Okitipupa local government areas.
Odimayo elected on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) said his initiative aligned with that of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasised agricultural development as a key component of Nigeria’s economic growth.
He said the effort aimed to boost local farmers by increasing crop yields and enhancing food production. He said providing fertilizers is a crucial strategy to improve agricultural practices and ensure that farmers have the necessary resources to succeed.
Speaking during the distribution ceremony, Odimayo highlighted the importance of supporting local farmers to increase crop yield and enhance food production.
He noted that the provision of fertilizers is part of a broader strategy to improve agricultural practices and provide farmers with essential resources.
Odimayo told the constituents, including APC leaders, that the next phase of solar streetlight installation is progressing well and would improve security and quality of life in the constituency.
Odimayo assured constituents that the restoration of electricity to Irele and Ese Odo local government areas would be completed by December.
He said this has been made possible through successful collaboration with stakeholders who secured funding to connect these areas directly to the Ode-Erinje 132KVA.
The project, according to him, included restoring and repairing existing cables and procuring new transformers to ensure a stable power supply.
Odimayo announced that the anticipated N100,000 grant for participants of the bead-making programme from last June would be disbursed by the end of August.
“Drawing an analogy between current national challenges and the pains of labour before childbirth, Odimayo urged patience with President Tinubu’s administration, acknowledging the difficulties Nigerians are facing while assuring that these challenges are temporary.
He emphasized that there was hope and that the Tinubu government was committed to fulfilling its promises of economic recovery and national development.
Addressing water scarcity in parts of the Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency, Odimayo revealed plans to drill boreholes in villages most in need of a reliable water supply in the coming months, with discussions already underway with the United Nations for sustainable solutions.
The lawmaker announced a new five-kilometer road construction project within the constituency as part of ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and connectivity between communities.
The legislator expressed gratitude to constituents for their unwavering support and commended the youth for maintaining peace during the #EndBadGovernance protests, noting their exemplary conduct.
Ahead of the November 16 governorship election in the state, Odimayo also solicited support for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, urging the people to back him as he continues to drive progress and development in the state.
Prominent leaders in the constituency, including Hon. Bode Ikulala, APC Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government, and Chief Z. A. Omoge, APC Chairman of Irele Local Government, applauded Odimayo for his dedication to the welfare of the people. They acknowledged the positive impact of his initiatives on local farmers and infrastructure.
