Protests: Sani Lifts Dusk-To-Dawn Curfew In Kaduna, Zaria

The Kaduna State government yesterday lifted the 6 pm to 8 am curfew imposed in Kaduna and Zaria after last week’s protests against hunger and bad governance turned violent.

Hoodlums hijacked the hitherto peaceful protests to loot and destroy private and public property, forcing the government to impose a curfew.

The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs Samuel Aruwan said the State Security Council meeting presided over by Governor Uba Sani made the decision after “an extensive review of the security situation in Kaduna and Zaria towns and their environs”.

He said: “With this development, law-abiding citizens are free to move and engage in legitimate activities in Kaduna and Zaria towns and their environs with no restriction.

“The State Security Council during the extensive assessment held last night unanimously recommended the removal of the curfew and reiterated its commitment to the security and safety of the citizenry.”
