The Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, yesterday alleged that the miscreants who invaded the State High Court during the protests against hunger and bad governance carted away some of the documents being used for the corruption trial of his immediate predecessor, Umar Ganduje.
The state government took Ganduje, some of his family members, and five others to court over charges of misappropriation and diversion of funds during his eight-year tenure as governor.
Yusuf made the allegation after he inspected the court that was vandalised by thugs during the protests. In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sanusi Bature, he claimed that “the hired undesirable elements” destroyed every unit of the courts and that the damage caused is worth N1 billion.
Yusuf was quoted as saying: “It is unfortunate that enemies of Kano State hired undesirable elements to vandalise one of the historic public buildings. ”This was with a mission of averting corruption charges against Ganduje, his family and aides.”
He urged the youths to desist from being used by detractors to engage in violence. The governor said: “Instead, the youths should concentrate on skills acquisition for a better future.
“The state government will not relent in securing the lives and property of the people of the state.” He commiserates with the Chief Judge, Justice Dije Aboki, and the entire judiciary over the incident.
