Protest: UI Declares Three-Week Break For Students

Following the recent fee hike protest by students of University of Ibadan (UI), the University management has announced a three-week break for all students.

According to the circular send to the student, the break is set to commence on Saturday, August 31, 2024, to Friday, 20 September 2024.

This decision was approved by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale following a meeting with the leadership of the Students’ Union on Friday, 30 August 2024.

In an internal circular issued by the Registrar, Mr Ganiyu O. Saliu, the break was described as necessary to give students sufficient time to complete their online registration for the 2023/2024 academic session.

The Registrar emphasized that the three-week period is crucial for students to ensure they meet all registration requirements before the start of the first semester examinations.

According to the circular, the examinations are scheduled to commence on Monday, 23 September 2024.

The University has set a strict deadline for registration, with the portal remaining open only until Friday, 20 September 2024.

Saliu made it clear that there would be no further opportunities for fee payment or course registration after this date, stating, “There will be no re-opening of the portal for fee payment or course registration after 20 September 2024.”

Students were also warned that failure to complete their registration by this deadline would result in them being ineligible to sit for their examinations.

“Students who do not register appropriately will not be allowed to write examinations,” the circular asserted.

In compliance with the University’s directives, all students are required to vacate the campus by 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, 31 August 2024.

Also, the halls of residence will remain closed throughout the break, reopening at 12 noon on Friday, 20 September 2024, to allow students to return and prepare for their upcoming exams.
