Protest: Normalcy Returns To Keffi As Karu Chairman Orders Closure of Wrestling Centres, Others

Normalcy has returned to Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, following the lifting of curfew earlier imposed on the Area by authorities of the Council.

This is just as the Karu Local Government Chairman ordered the closure of traditional drama, wrestling centres in the locality aside the curfew earlier imposed on the Local Government Area on the first day of the protest.

The closure of traditional drama and wrestling centers in Karu, according to the LG Chairman, James Thomas.was part of measures taken to restore peace and order in the locality.

The closure of the comedy centers no coming on the heels of the dusk-dawn curfew imposed in Karu in the wake of hardship protests which began on August 1.

In a statement issued to newsmen on Sunday in Karu, said the decision to shut down the traditional drama and wrestling Centre es followed an emergency security meeting.convnened by the council authorities shut the places until further notice.

The statement disclosed that the local wrestling activities, and the wrestling houses popularly known as (Gidan Danbe), as well as all drama activities, and drama houses (Gidan Drama) and the scavenger houses (Gidan Bola) in Karu Local Government Area, have been suspended and to remain closed till further notice.

The statement informed that security agencies have detailed to be on the alert to monitor any suspicious movement and nib to the bud any attempt to breach the peace and law in the area.

While appreciating the security agencies, and the people in the locality for peaceful conduct during the protest, the chairman urged for calm as government was doing everything possible to safeguard lives and prosperity of the people in the area.

The chairman who lamented the spate of robbery, vandalization, stealing, and destruction of propertie during the first day of the protest, however, called for calm.

He warned that anyone caught breaching the peace the law in the area would be apprehended and made to face the full wrath of the law.
