Protest: EKSU Shifts Exam Date For Adequate Preparation

…as Varsity sets to begin academic on Pharmacy, Dental Surgery

The management of the Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti has postponed the examination in the school.

This according to the school authority occurred against the backdrop of the nationwide protest to end bad governance which commenced in the Country on Thursday, August 1.

The University which earlier slated the examination to August 12 has now fixed 19th August for the commencement of the examination to enable the students to prepare adequately.

The development was disclosed on Wednesday by the Vice Chancellor of the institution Professor Edward Olanpekun during an interaction with Journalists in his office at the campus.

Olanpekun whose tenure ends in a fortnight stated that the school authority was able to keep the students on campus during the nationwide protest because of the understanding between the management and the student union executives.

Olanipekun said, “The examination will now commence on the 19th of August as against the earlier scheduled date of the 12th of August. That decision was taken in view of unforeseen circumstances which affected the calendar.

“The one-week extension will allow the students to have adequate time to prepare for their exams so that they can do well. We just made the decision 10 minutes ago. We have understanding with our students and as you are aware, we have new student union leaders.

“We pleaded with them that they should go about their normal academic activities which they took in good faith, we have been in constant communication and the outcome is the one-week extension of their exams between the management and the student union leaders.

“We are in the process of commencing new programmes in the university and one such programme is Doctor of Pharmacy. We are expecting the result of the visitation panels both from NUC as well as the professional regulatory agency.

“We are still expecting their reports. We are optimistic that the report will be positive and if the outcome is positive, that means we will be admitted into the programmes, Dr of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Dental Surgery.

“Recently, to God be the glory we promoted 70 academic staff to the rank of Professor and they cut across all departments and faculties. We equally promote 60 to the position of readers, which is equivalent to Associate Professor.

“The council has approved all the promotions. What can interest you gentlemen is that in the Faculty of Law, we now have 7 Professors from two, the Vice Chancellor said.
