‘Promoting Reading Culture’ll Reduce Illiteracy, Endemic Poverty’

Wife of a former Governor of Ekiti State, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, has advocated for a rejuvenated reading culture and mental alertness as antidotes to pervasive trends of poverty, illiteracy and oppression being experienced by Nigerians.

Mrs Fayemi, while noting that development would continue to be affected with gender discrimination and inequality taking the centre stage, said neocolonialistic thinking would only breed class disparities, rather than an equal and united people.

She spoke on Tuesday during an event tagged: ‘Read a Book’ conversation organised by the Ministry of Youth Development, in partnership with the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) held in Ado Ekiti.

The academic event was chaired by the Ekiti State First Lady and a scholar, Prof. Olayemi Oyebanji, and was attended by various youth groups and students across the state.
