Following the conclusion of his Wednesday General Audience in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Francis has made a heartfelt appeal against escalation in Lebanon as the war in the Holy Land continued.
Calling the volatile situation ‘unacceptable,’ Pope Francis prays for all who are suffering from war and losing hope.
Pope Francis said, “I am saddened by the news coming from Lebanon, where in recent days, intense bombings have caused many victims and destruction.”

New Telegraph gathered that as of 24 September 2024, 558 people have died in Lebanon, with an Israeli raid killing the commander of Hezbollah’s missile system south of Beirut. Over 2,000 bombs have been dropped in three days, while rocket launches continue.
Israeli raids against Hezbollah have so far caused over 550 victims, including civilians and children.
The Holy Father also prayed for all suffering from war and again turned to war-torn Ukraine in his greetings to the Polish faithful.
Pope Francis said, “Let us pray, for everyone, for all the peoples who suffer from war: the war-torn Ukraine, Myanmar, Palestine, Israel, Sudan—all the afflicted peoples. Let us pray for peace.”
