Police Uncover Bandits’ Camps In Abuja, Arrest Suspects

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command on Sunday revealed it has detected various kidnapping camps in the Gidan Dogo and Kweti woods of Kaduna State, which borders Abuja.

Speaking on the development in a statement issued by his Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh said the operation was carried out on Friday in response to genuine intelligence about the criminals’ actions.

According to her, four suspects were detained during the operation: Yahaya Abubakar of Mpape, Mohammed Mohamed of Zuba, an ex-convict, Umar Aliyu, and Nura Abdullahi, also an ex-convict.

She added that the suspects have freely admitted to being members of the notorious bandit syndicate known as ‘Mai One Million’, which is responsible for a number of kidnappings in the territory.

“The coordinated operation, occasioned a shootout between the bandits and the security operatives, forcing them to scamper to safety and victims rescued. The illegally erected structures by the kidnappers in all the patrolled camps, were all decimated.

“While the rescued victims have since been reunited with their families and loved ones, the commissioner of police, FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh lauded the effort of the security operatives in the fight against criminality in the Nation’s Capital,” Adeh added.
